For those who don’t know much about the gaming industry, the XDS (External Development Summit) event may not sound as popular as GDC (Game Developers Conference, in San Francisco – United States) or Gamescom (in Cologne – Germany), for example. The main difference between these kind of events? Its attendees and their main goals.
GDC and Gamescom, alike many other gaming conferences on earth, are focused not only on business but mainly on the consumers. It is, what we call as B2C (Business to Consumer) event. These events are used by many video game developers to exhibit upcoming games and game-related software/hardware. Something many don’t know is that, behind these events curtains, besides all lectures, presentations and releases, companies are doing business with other companies. This is what we call the B2B (Business to Business) part of the event.
XDS, unlike GDC and Gamescom, does not hold any B2C content. Established in 2013, External Development Summit (XDS) is the only annual, international games industry event with a primary focus on external development for art, animation, audio, software engineering, QA and localization.
XDS gathers hundreds of international attendees from over 45 countries to advance the practice of external development for the games industry with three days of structured networking in Vancouver, Canada, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. XDS is considered to be a professionals-only event. This year, XDS will begin on Tuesday, October 27th and ends on Friday, October 30th.
